Anastasi Selby’s story was selected as the winning entry for the 2016 Boulevard Short Fiction Contest for Emerging Writers. “Certain Fires” appears in the fall issue (#97). The story focuses “on fighting wildfires in California and the sexual tensions of mixed-gender crews.” Selby worked as a firefighter on three hotshot crews for the USFS in California and Colorado as well as a helicopter crew member for the Park Service in Alaska.
