Booked Up began in 1971 in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. and is now located in Archer City, Texas, carrying between 150,000 and 200,000 fine and scholarly titles.
Owned/managed by local Austinite, Albert McGee. We cater to collectors and everyday readers with a huge inventory of obscure HBs/first editions and plenty of cheap paperbacks.
BookPeople has been Texas’ leading independent bookstore since 1970. Located in the heart of downtown, BookPeople has been voted best bookstore in Austin for over 20 years. The rest of the country has caught on too; BookPeople was voted Bookstore of the Year by Publisher’s Weekly in 2005. With visits from some of the most interesting and important authors of the past 43 years, as well as by Former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, BookPeople is the destination bookstore in Texas.
BookWoman began 43 years ago in an upstairs shop on Guadalupe. From there we moved into Susan Post's house at the time, and then we became BookWoman and moved to 6th Street. Then we moved to 12th and Lamar, and since 2008 we're located at 5501 North Lamar, where we host regular events.
MonkeyWrench Books is an all-volunteer, collectively run bookstore and social space in Austin, TX that's pushing toward something radically different.

Brenham's premier (okay, only) used bookstore located in historic Downtown Brenham. Our newest location is our best yet, with six rooms chock full of books! (It’s not really a “nook” anymore.) Interabang Books, a new full-service, independent bookstore, will open in July 2017. The 5,000 square foot store, at the southeast corner of Preston Road and Royal Lane, will carry 12,000+ titles in a variety of categories, with a focus on fiction, children’s books, and creative nonfiction. The store will feature a flexible event space with seating for up to 100 people for book signings and a children’s stage for weekly story times and other programs.

The Twig Book Shop began its evolution in 1972. Currently located at the former Pearl Brewery on the Museum Reach of the Riverwalk, The Twig provides newly released books for children and adults as well as award-winning classics.
