Located steps from Pioneer Works at 289 Van Brunt St., Pioneer Books is a small independent bookstore offering a focused and changing roster of titles that connect to and inspire the trans-disciplinary underpinnings of the center’s mission, programming, and residencies. Titles range in subject from art, science, architecture, fiction, mysticism, technology, pedagogy, and children’s books, to renegade zines, small presses, and underrepresented authors. Like the original Quimby's in Chicago (25 years!) this location specializes in zines and small press. Unlike the Chicago, store we do not carry comics because we are right next door to Desert Island Comics, the best comic shop in New York. The store also exhibits photography and has a large selection of photography books, and hosts author events.
