Publisher’s description: Hanging Loose Press turned 43 in 2009, making it one of the oldest independent literary magazines in the country. Its name derives from its original format, loose pages in a cover envelope. Today, the magazine is a lot more dressed-up, but the focus remains the same: energetic work by new writers and by the writers who started out with us. Among them: Ha Jin, Sherman Alexie, Kimiko Hahn, Paul Violi, Sharon Mesmer, Charles North, Jayne Cortez, Tony Towle, Maureen Owen, Joanna Fuhrman, Maggie Nelson, Cathy Park Hong—and many, many more. Plus a unique feature: Each issue contains an amazing section of writing by high school students which will knock you off your chair. Finally, each issue features a portfolio by a single artist, among them George Schneeman, Archie Rand, Louise Hamlin, Robin Tewes, and David Borchart.
