Publisher’s description: eMerge Magazine was launched in 2017 after a meteor reportedly fell from the sky and struck our owner and publisher, Charles Templeton, on the head. Charles hasn't been quite the same since—but that may be exactly what the literary world needed.
What began as a slightly concussed idea quickly evolved into a vibrant platform designed to showcase the work of emerging authors and artists. From the beginning, eMerge has also welcomed established writers looking to share bold, boundary-pushing work with a new audience.
Our Mission
eMerge Magazine publishes poetry and short fiction that dares to challenge conventions. We value writing that offers fresh insights into the human experience—work that startles, stirs, and inspires. There are no mandatory themes or styles; what matters most is the strength of your message and the courage to explore new creative ground.
Submission Periods
- General Submissions: October 1 – October 31
- The Woody Barlow Poetry Contest: June 1 – June 30
- The Nikki Hanna Literary Challenge: February 1 – February 28
What Are We Looking For?
We get this question a lot. Here’s the short answer: Don’t be boring. Grab us by the first line and don’t let go. We love diverse voices, perspectives, and styles—whether you’re just beginning or have been writing for decades. We will consider previously published work if it aligns with our mission.
Provoke us. Move us. Make us see humanity in a way we’ve never considered before.
