    Published twice annually by Michigan State University Press, Fourth Genre is a literary journal that explores the boundaries of contemporary literary nonfiction. We're interested in all forms of the essay: personal, nature, environmental, graphic, lyric, travel, cultural, political, occasional, traditional, and pretty much anything else that plays with the long tradition of the nonfiction essay.

Publisher's description: Fourth Genre: Explorations in Nonfiction is a literary journal devoted to publishing notable, innovative work in creative nonfiction. The journal explores the genre's flexibility and expansiveness with works ranging from personal and lyric essays to graphic or hybrid pieces. FG publishes essays that are self-interrogating, meditative, and reflective, as well as expository, analytical, exploratory, or whimsical. In addition to essays, each issue features a review section and at least one piece on craft. The spring issue features winners of the $1,000 annual essay contest.

Recent issues have included work by Tony Hoagland, Michele Morano, John Price, Sheryl St. Germain, Ira Sukrungrang, Katherine Standefer, Patrick Madden, Cherise Morris, Nick Neely, Kathryn Winograd, Ryan Van Meter, Renee E. D’Aoust, Ned Stuckey-French.
