Publisher’s description: “This lit mag offers a welcome variety of forms, all of them trending toward the conventional while still taking stylistic risks. The pieces it publishes get in when they need to and leave right on time. Characterizations are fresh, novel, and telling, and there’s an emphasis placed on the quality of prose on a sentence by sentence basis. Writers would do well to submit stories with strong characterizations or poems that exhibit a mastery of language. Given the quality of the material presented, I’d gladly sit in this cherry tree’s shade.”
—The Review Review
Founded in 2014, Cherry Tree: A National Literary Journal @ Washington College is an annual literary magazine featuring poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and literary shade by emerging and established writers from across the United States, and all over the world. Washington College undergraduates participate in all facets of the journal’s production.
Although still very young, Cherry Tree has already received national recognition. Poems from the first two issues have been selected for inclusion in both the 2016 and 2017 editions of Best American Poetry, chosen by editors Edward Hirsch and Natasha Trethewey. Several poems from the first issue were also featured on Verse Daily.
