Publisher's description: Bennington Review, founded in 1966 by Shirley Jackson's son Laurence Jackson Hyman and relaunched in 2016 after a thirty-year hiatus, seeks to reinforce the value of the bound print journal as an intimate, curated cultural space. Inspired by poet Dean Young's dictum in his book The Art of Recklessness that poets should be making "birds, not birdcages," we publish writing that is simultaneously as reckless as it is graceful, as playful as it is probing and relentless, writing that is willing to take risks in form and content in order to make lasting intellectual and emotional connections with its readers. Our issues feature startling, unexpected poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and film commentary from an aesthetically broad and culturally inclusive spectrum of writers.

Recent and forthcoming issues include fiction and nonfiction by Kathleen Alcott, Shane Jones, Porochista Khakpour, David Stuart MacLean, Sabrina Orah Mark, Michael Martone, Reginald McKnight, Josip Novakovich, David James Poissant, and Deb Olin Unferth; and poetry and translations by Rae Armantrout, Jericho Brown, Cynthia Cruz, Nick Flynn, Aracelis Girmay, Fady Joudah, Laura Kasischke, Dorothea Lasky, Amanda Nadelberg, Hannah Sanghee Park, Paisley Rekdal, Mary Ruefle, Robyn Schiff, Tracy K. Smith, and Wendy Xu.
