Uncle Hugo’s Science Fiction Bookstore is the oldest surviving science fiction bookstore in the United State, opening on March 2, 1974. Since December 1, 1980, Uncle Edgar’s Mystery Bookstore has been a companion bookstore to Uncle Hugo’s.  Uncle Edgar’s shares the new location with Uncle Hugo’s.  The Uncles carry new and used science fiction, fantasy, and mystery books, including a kids book section, plus a lot of jigsaw puzzles.  Ecko, the store dog since 2016, is usually around to greet customers.

The Garden District Book Shop resides inside the historic property called the Rink at the corner of Washington Ave and Prytania St in New Orleans’ beautiful Garden District. We carry a large collection of regional titles: new and used; design, art and gardening books; fiction and non-fiction; children’s; and signed first editions and limited editions by many regionally and nationally acclaimed authors. The Rink was originally built in 1884 as the Crescent City Skating Rink (roller skating) to lure passing tourists during the World’s Cotton Centennial Exposition. Since then the building has housed a livery stable, mortuary, grocery store, and gas station.
