Publisher's description: Four Chambers is a semi-annual print-edition independent community literary magazine based in Phoenix, AZ whose mission is to give greater visibility to the literary arts and encourage their larger participation in the cultural scene.
We're not really into cover letters. We publish work from authors who are established, emerging, unknown, uninterested, or don't even think of themselves as authors in the first place. We don't have a particular aesthetic or agenda. We're trying to put together an eclectic collection of contemporary literature. We're simply interested in good work. It's also worth noting that each issue features custom illustrations from local artists. In addition, we give away $200 in prizes.
We organize public readings at farmer's markets and street festivals. We present literature in ways that aren't just sitting in a chair and listening to someone read. We're collaborating with artists in other disciplines. We're trying to create a meaningful and relevant public art. We think the only way that any of us are going to be relatively successful in this thing is to get organized, work together, keep writing, and try to advance ourselves and our scene. We like to think of ourselves as a heart: as something centralized, organic, and part of a larger body; that connects, supports, and circulates life. We <3 literature. We <3 puns. We also <3 you. While other literary magazines publish literary work (and community literary magazines may get that work from the community), we are publishing work to build community. In some way shape or form, we would like you to be a part of it. Let us know what we can do.
