Our graduate program holds the distinction of being the oldest PhD in creative writing in the nation as well as one of the few that supports study in creative nonfiction beside poetry and fiction. Our aesthetic interests are eclectic too, and we emphasize working closely with students on theses and dissertations. Class sizes are small, and students are encouraged to study outside their genre as well as in other departmental programs, including literature, screen studies, TESOL, and composition/rhetoric.
