Program description: Located in the historic literary community of San Francisco, the MFA Program in Writing at CCA offers flexible yet rigorous courses of study. In addition to a variety of workshops, seminars, and mentored study courses, students may engage in the large, evolving eld of text and image, book art, magazine production, video or lm art, and multimedia art.
The program hosts a public Writers Series at which invited guests—writers, editors, publishers, performers—meet in an intimate setting with students and the general public.
Recently the program developed a Master Writer in Residence project. We invite one writer of national or international prominence in fiction, poetry, or nonfiction to serve as an instructor and voice on trends and issues in writing and literature. During the one-week residency, the master writer conducts workshops or seminars or lectures (or any combination thereof), reads selected student manuscripts, and gives a public reading.
MFA students publish Eleven Eleven (1111), a literary arts journal that comes out twice a year.
