The Geist Tobacco Lit Writing Contest

Geist is introducing an entirely new literary genre with the Tobacco Lit Writing Contest. Tobacco lit can be any collection of words that are (in some way) directly or tangentially about tobacco—whether it’s about those who smoke it, roll it or grow it, or poetry written from an ashtray’s point of view, it’s tobacco lit. $1000 in prizes to be won, as well as publication in Geist and on geist.com. Barthelme Prize for Short Prose

Postmark, Submission Deadline: August 31, 2014

Gulf Coast is now accepting entries for the 2014 Barthelme Prize for Short Prose, judged by Amy Hempel. The contest is open to pieces of prose poetry, flash fiction, and micro-essays of 500 words or fewer. The contest awards its winner $1,000 and publication in the journal. Two honorable mentions receive $250 and will also appear in issue 27.2, due out in April 2015. All entries will be considered for paid publication on our website as online exclusives. The Coniston Prize from Radar Poetry

The first annual Coniston Prize will be open to submissions from July 1 to September 1, 2014! Radar Poetry's annual, endowed prize recognizes an outstanding group of poems by a woman writing in English. This year's judge is the poet Mary Biddinger. The winner will be awarded $1,000, and her work will be featured in the October issue of Radar. Up to ten finalists will also be awarded publication. The entry fee is $15. 2014 In Cahoots Contest - $50 Cash Prize

Submission deadline: October 1, 2014

There is no entrance fee. Simultaneous submissions are okay (but if your submission is published elsewhere first, it will be disqualified for First Prize, so please notify us immediately if it is picked up elsewhere). Submissions must be new collaborative work only. This means all submissions must be created by 2+ people. Submit 1-3 pieces in a single email. Each piece may have a different collaborative team. All submissions must include a literary component but may include or be paired with a visual or audio component. Gulf Coast is now accepting entries for the inaugural Gulf Coast Translation Prize. In 2014, the contest is open to poetry in translation. The winner receives $1,000 and publication in the journal. Gulf Coast is now accepting entries for the 2014 Barthelme Prize for Short Prose, judged by Amy Hempel. The contest is open to pieces of prose poetry, flash fiction, and micro-essays of 500 words or fewer. The contest awards its winner $1,000 and publication in the journal.
