Publisher’s description: Approaching its 50th year of publication, EVENT is an award-winning, internationally recognized literary magazine publishing fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and reviews three times a year. Every issue presents a compelling selection of work that inspires, delights, and challenges, by established and newer writers, both from Canada and abroad, who are writing well, but are not yet always well-known. We strive for a diversity of voices and literary styles.

Our Spring/Summer Issue also features the winning entries from our Non-Fiction Contest, the longest-running annual contest of its kind in Canada (with a deadline of October 15). The Winter Issue offers a selection of Notes on Writing—brief, personal insights into the writing process—by an eclectic mix of international writers.

Over the decades EVENT has published many distinguished writers, including André Alexis, George Bowering, Charles Bukowski, Esi Edugyan, Jack Hodgins, Annabel Lyon, Pablo Neruda, Alden Nowlan, Nino Ricci, Diane Schoemperlen, Carol Shields, Timothy Taylor, and Madeline Thien, both before and after they gained national or international recognition, and continues to support gifted emerging writers such as Jason Jobin, John Elizabeth Stintzi, Sanchari Sur, and Souvankham Thammavongsa.

Recent writing in EVENT has garnered the 2020 National Magazine Silver Award for Poetry; the 2017 Canadian Magazine Award for Best Literature; been short-listed for the 2020, 2019, and 2018 Journey Prizes; and featured in the Best Canadian Stories, Poetry, and Essays anthologies.

EVENT also runs a popular Reading Service for Writers. It is published by Douglas College out of New Westminster, BC, Canada.
