In this issue: filk music, basketballs and tennis balls, trees with hands, the U.S./Mexico border, an ’80s Detroit dance party, and the winners of the 2018 Jeff Sharlet Memorial Award for Veterans.

In Creative Nonfiction #70: “Home,” we search for our place in the world. From Ohio to Oregon, from Browning, Montana, to the US-Mexico border, and from gated communities and “safe” suburbs to tight-knit urban neighborhoods, eleven restless writers ask whether home is a place or a state of mind; who belongs and who doesn’t; and why we stay and why we leave. Plus, the difference between “story time” and “text time”; tiny truths; and more.

This issue features the winners of our annual Robert Watson Literary Prizes—Sarah Heying for her story, “The Chair Kickers’ Tale,” and Lena Khalaf Tuffaha for her poem, “Miss Sahar Listens to Fairuz Sing ‘The Bees’ Path’”—along with new work from Jessica Guzman Alderman, Mia Caruso, Julia Kolchinsky Dasbach, Mary Grimm, Rebecca Gayle Howell, Peter Krumbach, Derek N. Otsuji, Sharon Solwitz, and many more. With issue #105, we are also pleased to announce a new publishing partnership with the University of North Carolina Press for journal distribution and subscriptions.

The Summer 2019 issue features a tribute to Instagram Poets. Much has been written about Instagram poetry over the last several years, and we thought it was time to investigate for ourselves. We received both submissions and recommendations and read through thousands of Instagram accounts, choosing the best 18 poems we could find. The styles span the range, from visual poems to epigrams to more traditional poetry that just happens to fit well with the media. Learn more about the nexus of poetry and Instagram as Timothy Green talks to emerging star Pavana Reddy. Meanwhile, the open section features two dozen eclectic poems.
