Basically Books specializes in books, maps and gifts with a Hawaiian theme. Our children’s section includes books, plush, toys, puppets. Bath and body products and local crafts are made in Hawai’i. Since first opening in 1985, we have grown and evolved into a gathering place in Hilo for authors. Special events at the store help us connect members of our community.

Big Island BookBuyers is a great source for gently used and out of print used books and DVDs. And we also carry a selection of new materials including books of the Hawaiiana, tour guide and local author genres, as well as maps, calendars and locally produced greeting cards. Our bookstore is located in downtown Hilo and offers a great selection of pocket (mass market) paperbacks – Science Fiction, Fantasy, Thrillers, Mysteries, Horror, and more. Included in our thousands of book titles are topics in spirituality, self-help, gardening, cooking, history, science, art, poetry, Hawaiiana, voyaging, children’s, and more. Several hundred new titles are added to our shelves every week.
