Publisher’s Description: Deep within every individual lies the urge to understand the meaning and purpose of existence. For thirty years PARABOLA Magazine has responded to this universal impulse by presenting the sacred traditions, myths, symbols, rituals, and stories that have served to guide and inspire people in all times and places.

Each thematic issue of PARABOLA offers contemporary essays and images as well as excerpts of wisdom from the great masters of years past. Past and present come together in the retellings of traditional religious, folk, and fairy tales from cultures both familiar and obscure. Issue themes have included: The Hero, Addiction, Death, Healing, Woman, The Seeker, Evil, Eros, Attention, Prayer and Meditation, and Chaos and Order. We count among our contributors: Elaine Pagels, Thomas Moore, James Hillman, Fritjof Capra, Robert Thurman, Joseph Campbell, Madeleine L’Engle, Peter Matthiessen, P.L. Travers, Thich Nhat Hanh, Wendy Doniger, Robertson Davies, N.Scott Momaday, Ursula K. LeGuin, among others. For us, the questions are as fascinating and thought-provoking as the answers, and we seek to open and sustain discussion of the oldest questions of all.

Published quarterly by the Society for the Study of Myth and Tradition, a non-profit, non-denominational, educational organization. Each issue devotes 128 highly illustrated pages to a universal theme.
