Publisher’s description: “Big rewards are in order for any reader willing to take /nor up on its challenge to look at things differently” -- Josh Maday, NewPages.com.
/nor is funded and edited by Ohio University’s Creative Writing Department. We aim to present as broad a spectrum of new writing as possible, without taking sides. Our inaugural issue featured innovative writers such as Nathaniel Mackey, Thylias Moss, Rachel Blau DuPlessis, Joyelle McSweeney, and Khaled Mattawa, along with more formally conventional work from David Shields, Tom Pickard, Albert Grossman. The launch issue also featured a critical exchange between Marjorie Perloff and David Wojahn, on the current literary reputation of Robert Lowell. We plan to make this unique critical debate between established writers and critics a regular feature. Also, our website features a video page, which will be developed in time to showcase work submitted from around the world.
Recent issue:
No. 2
Featuring work from some of today’s most exciting and accomplished writers,
such as Jenny Boully, Graham Foust, Kass Fleischer, and Barrett Watten.
/nor 2 also features a critical conversation between Barbara Hamby,
Kevin Prufer, and Michael Theune, on the objective reading of poetry. And in
this issue, /nor’s elegant, prize-winning design showcases
photography by Laura Larson. Contest details for The Editors’ Prize can be
found at our website.
