Publisher’s description: From quirky nonfiction shorts to more traditional stories, we are committed to publishing solid work. Regardless of style, at Bayou Magazine we are always interested first in a well-told tale. Our poetry and prose are filled with memorable characters observing their world, acknowledging both the mundane and the sublime, often at once, and always with an eye toward beauty.
Each issue of Bayou Magazine is packed with a range of material from established, award-winning authors as well as new voices on the rise. Recent contributors include Virgil Suarez, Marilyn Hacker, Sean Beaudoin, Tom Whalen, Mark Doty, Philip Cioffari, Lyn Lifshin, Timothy Liu and Gaylord Brewer. And in one issue every year, Bayou Magazine features the winner of the annual Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival One-Act Play Competition.
Bayou Magazine is produced through the collaborative effort of the students and faculty of the MFA in Creative Writing Program at The University of New Orleans.
