Publisher's description: Since 1983, Weber—The Contemporary West has been publishing personal narrative, critical commentary, fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry that offer insight into the environment and culture of the contemporary western United States.
We reach an international audience twice a year with pieces that highlight preservation of and access to wilderness, environmental cooperation; insight derived from living in the West; cultural diversity; changing federal involvement in the region; women, minority populations and the West; implications of population growth; the contributions of individual scholars, artists, community leaders, and public intellectuals toward an enlarged understanding of the (both new and old) West. Authors featured in recent issues include E.L. Doctorow, Russell Banks, Sharon Olds, and Alexander McCall Smith.
We offer our readers special "Focus Issues" as the occasion arises. Our “Global Spotlight” feature seeks to introduce the work of important international writers to our readers. Our "Film Focus" feature offers insightful critiques and commentaries on contemporary works of cinema. Our widely known interview series showcases prominent writers, artists, and intellectuals of our time. Authors we have recently interviewed include James Balog, Carol Ugochukwu, Alexander McCall Smith, Sharon Olds, Russell Banks, and E.L. Doctorow.
Our full-size format and contemporary design provide a showcase for our contributors, who will find their writing interlaced with suggestive illustrations. Each of our issues contain a full-color 12 page art-spread by our regularly featured artists and photographers.
